Sketch 101: Sketch Writing Basics

This course is an introduction to sketch writing designed to help create a good foundation through various writing exercises and techniques. Students will learn how to spark an idea and get those ideas onto paper, create a story outline, and produce a hilarious sketch! There is no performance at the end of this course.

Students should have access to a computer/laptop and be prepared to work away from the classroom setting. Access to a printer is a plus, but not needed.

Sketch 201: Sketch Writing Generator

This course is designed for the continued growth and development of skills learned in Sketch 101; while also raising the stakes by ramping up writing production and meeting deadlines. Students will focus on collaboration with in-class and at home assignments to tighten up sketches through polishing. This class will conclude with a student show.

Students must bring one sketch (no more than 4 pages) to the first class, as well as be expected to write at least one sketch a week. Students should have access to a computer/laptop and be prepared to work away from the classroom setting. Access to a printer is a plus, but not needed.

Prerequisite: Sketch 101

Sketch 301: Sketch Production

This course is an advanced dive into sketch performance with a solid focus on visual story telling through directing and learning the intricacies of creating a sketch show. Students will learn to develop their artistic eye while pushing themselves and their team to cast, direct, and produce their own sketch showcase.

Students must submit a packet prior to the first week of classes. Students of this class will NOT act in the showcases, but will be responsible for casting, scheduling, and producing showcases. Please review and confirm class and showcase schedule before registering. Students should have access to a computer/laptop and be prepared to work away from the classroom setting. Access to a printer is a plus, but not needed.

Prerequisite: Sketch 201 and teacher recommendation

War Room

The War Room is a bi-monthly sketch workshop centered around writing and creating sketches within the community. With a heavy emphasis on the collaboration and experimentation, members will pool their knowledge and experiences and share their talents to develop and eventually produce sketches. The goal behind this workshop is to build up reels, gain new connections within the community, exercise skills from class, and continue to grow and learn the art of sketch. Writers, actors, directors, editors, those with crafty skills, and everything in between are welcome to join. Each workshop is $5 and instructor lead.

Knowing how to operate a camera and editing footage are crucial elements to any creator’s arsenal. Add to you repertoire the basic knowledge of camera work and editing.
