Improv Cincinnati should be a safe space for everyone. It’s our highest value to foster a fun, inclusive, and friendly community with meaningful and supportive relationships. If you have been a victim of (or have been a witness of) sexual harassment, abuse, discrimination, or any unsafe situation at Improv Cincinnati, an IC event, or with a member of the IC community, please let us know as soon as possible by completing the below form.
The Process
A submitted report will go directly to Kelly Gruber, IC’s Safe Space Committee Liaison. Kelly will review the report and determine the who will investigate the case (the “case manager”). The case manager will review the case, hold necessary conversations (investigate), and make recommendations to Jon Ulrich and Colin Thornton (assuming they are not the case managers) about how to proceed. Jon and Colin will make the final decision and hold any necessary conversations with involved parties. The goal is for all of these steps to be completed within one week of the report’s submission.
Important Things to Know
The contents of the report will be limited to the Safe Space Committee Liaison (Kelly Gruber), the case manager, and, finally, Jon and Colin. If your complaint is against Kelly, please contact Jon/Colin directly at info@improvcincinnati.com.
We will always strive to protect your privacy, and will never share names/details with anyone unless we feel it is truly necessary. Improv Cincinnati has a clear and strict anti-retaliation policy. You will never be punished or penalized for submitting a report. If you ever feel that is not the case, please contact Jon, Colin, or Kelly.
If you provide your contact information, the case manager will keep you updated of actions taken. If you submit anonymously, the committee will provide updates via an IC webpage with an address you create (only you will know it). You will choose the address when you complete the below report.
You can indicate on the report who you feel comfortable managing your case. You can select Jon/Colin, a member of the Safe Space Committee, an external HR company, or someone with a specific identity attribute (LGBTQ+, female, person of color, etc).
Reporting to Jon and Colin will honor your privacy by limiting the number of people reading the report. Your case would be investigated by the owners of the company who are the same individuals who would decide the eventual outcome.
Reporting to the safe space committee will potentially open your case to a diversity of ideas and opinions. It may prevent known and unknown biases by Jon and Colin.
Reporting to a third party investigator completely eliminates the risk of bias or favoritism. We only recommend this option if your case involves criminal behavior, or if you lack trust in the situation being handled internally. The Safe Space Liaison has the right to veto a request for a 3rd party HR company, or may elect to hire one for cases she considers particularly severe, complex, or sensitive. Improv Cincinnati will fund the HR company’s services.
The Safe Space Committee includes: Kelly Gruber (Safe Space Committee Liaison), Kelly Morton and Daniel Zimmer.
Remember, if you’ve encountered bad behavior from someone, it’s very likely others have as well. Please let us know so we can keep the Improv Cincinnati community as safe and fun as possible!
Safe Space Community Liaison, Kelly Gruber, can be contacted at managingdirector@improvcincinnati.com. She is the only person with access to this inbox.
