Do I have to be funny to take a class/workshop?
Not even a little bit. Just bring an open mind and a desire to have fun - you'll find the funny takes care of itself.
But isn't improv all about being witty and clever?
It can certainly seem that way from the audience. Once you understand how improv actually works, you'll realize not everything is as it appears.
What kind of prior experience do I need?
For a Level 1 - Improv Fundamentals class, absolutely none. Zero. Zip.
What should I expect during class?
Expect to meet a lot of other people who are also nervous and excited. Expect to play a bunch of fun, silly games that focus on listening and paying attention. Expect to laugh a lot. (A whole lot.)
Here's what our students say about Improv Cincinnati classes.
Can I try a class for free?
You bet. The best way is to join us at a free Intro to Improv Workshop. You're also welcome to attend the first session of a Level 1 class assuming it isn't already full - but please contact us ahead of time so we'll expect you.
How many students have you taught?
When we started in April 2016, Improv Cincinnati had 9 students. Since then we've taught 200+ students through our classes, team building, and workshops. Not bad for a young company!
Aren't there several famous people who got their start taking improv classes?
Quite a few. Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Stephen Colbert, Stephen Carell, Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele, Bill Murray, Mike Myers, Martin Short, Chris Farley, John Belushi, and a whole lot more.
How long are classes?
Classes consist of eight weekly sessions. Each session is two hours long.
Is there an age limit?
Students for adult classes must be 18 years or older. Teen class students must be 12-17.
What should I bring to class?
The great thing about improv is that you need almost nothing to do it. Here's our list of what to bring and how to find us.
What if I don't like the class?
Improv Cincinnati provides a Risk-Free Guarantee: If you are unsatisfied with the class for any reason, receive a 100% refund - no questions asked.
What if I miss a session?
Not a problem, life happens. Students who miss more than two sessions may not be able to graduate or perform in the class showcase. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
What are the class expectations for students?
All the normal stuff. Please be on time and ready to learn. Be friendly to classmates, and don't be surprised if some of them become great friends. Reoccurring instances of lateness, distracting cell phone use, inappropriate comments/behavior may be result in a student being asked to leave. Follow the golden rule.
